Olivos Golf Club is located in Ing. Pablo Nogués, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, approximately 32 kilometres from the city of Buenos Aires along the Panamericana highway. The club was founded in 1926 and originally opened an 18-hole British-style course at its first site in Olivos in 1928, before relocating to its current grounds around 1950 to 1952. The present 27-hole layout was designed by Luther Koontz, who had previously worked alongside Alister MacKenzie on Jockey Club courses elsewhere in Argentina. Olivos is a tree-lined parkland course, widely regarded as one of the finest in South America and often described as the Augusta National of Argentina, on account of its combination of firm, fast greens and tradition. The course comprises three nine-hole loops, White, Red and Blue, which can be combined into three different 18-hole configurations, with total yardage ranging from around 5,420 to 6,700 yards depending on the tees and combination played. Olivos has hosted the Argentine Open and Argentine Masters on multiple occasions, along with the South American Masters, the World Amateur Championship and the Copa de los Andes. It has featured among Golf Digest’s rankings of the best courses outside the United States, and the White-Red combination was rated the second best course in Argentina by Golf Digest in 2022. Walking is permitted at all times and caddies are available.
Olivos makes use of naturally uneven terrain, a departure from the flatter land typical of much of Buenos Aires Province, giving the course a series of subtle elevation changes across its three nines. A dozen of the 27 holes feature doglegs in either direction, and the course demands golfers work the ball both ways off the tee, a characteristic widely cited by those familiar with the layout as one of its defining strategic tests. Mature trees line most fairways, and while there is little rough in the traditional sense, missing fairways into the trees brings its own penalty through restricted angles and lies.
Greens throughout the course are large, fast and firmly presented, with meaningful slopes and borrows that demand precise distance control on approach. Conditioning is consistently rated highly, with cocos bent and creeping bent grasses on the greens and natural grass fairways contributing to a presentation regarded as among the best in the region.
Olivos Golf Club’s clubhouse offers an elegant setting with dining facilities for members and visitors, providing a comfortable base before and after a round.
