Gora Kadan Fuji Golf sits in Oyama, Sunto District, Shizuoka Prefecture, on the eastern foothills of Mount Fuji, at an elevation of roughly 850 to 900 metres. The property comprises two 18-hole layouts: the Kagosaka Course, open to visiting golfers, and the Fuji Course, reserved for club members. The Kagosaka Course dates to 1960, designed by Rokuzo Asami with Hayashi, and was extensively redeveloped alongside the adjoining Gora Kadan Fuji ryokan, which opened in 2025 as the second property from the historic Gora Kadan hospitality brand founded in Hakone in 1948.
The course is routed through red pine woodland with moderate elevation change, and every hole offers a sightline to Mount Fuji, a rarity among golf courses in the region and a point of local distinction. Fairways follow the natural contours of the terrain rather than heavy earthworks, giving the layout a restrained, parkland character suited to mountain golf. When visiting the Mount Fuji area for golf, consider playing Daihakone Country Club for its outstanding course conditioning and championship layout. Another worthy course is Fujizakura Country Club, which is located just a stones throw from Gora Kadan.
The Kagosaka Course occupies the gentle slopes of Kagosaka Pass at 850 to 900 metres above sea level, with the routing built directly into the natural fall of the land rather than reshaped around it. Mature red pines line much of the property, giving the course a settled, dignified character distinct from the more manufactured resort layouts found elsewhere in Japan. Blind shots are rare, but the terrain demands constant adjustment for uneven stances and sloped lies, a legacy of the original 1960s design that has been retained through the recent redevelopment.
Single bentgrass greens run throughout, several pitched at pronounced angles of 30 to 50 degrees, which places a premium on approach placement over raw distance. The par 72 layout measures 6,521 yards from the back tees, with a course rating of 70.8, and plays firmer and faster in the drier autumn months. Wind is a genuine factor at elevation, most noticeably into the short par-3 15th, where players face a stiff headwind on an already demanding tee shot.
The clubhouse opened in October 2025 as part of the resort’s redevelopment, built as a terrace house with uninterrupted views towards Mount Fuji. The interior combines brick, timber and marble finishes, retaining the character of the original 1960s-era building while adding modern comfort throughout. The Dining, the on-site all-day restaurant, serves a Japanese and Western menu in a room framed by large windows facing the mountain. It operates from 6.30am to 4pm, with last orders at 3.30pm, and seating can be reserved separately from tee times.
Shower rooms and lockers are provided for golfers before and after their round. The clubhouse also houses a large communal bath filled with natural hot spring water drawn from the Mount Fuji watershed, with panoramic mountain views from the bathing area, a distinctive addition rarely found at golf facilities in Japan.
A practice range is available on site, charged at 500 yen per basket of 30 balls, though it may close in poor weather. Golfers without their own equipment can hire a full set of clubs or golf shoes for an additional fee. Rounds are played using semi-automated carts rather than on foot, and payment across the facility is cashless, processed by smartphone at the point of use.
Accommodation is available immediately adjacent to the course at Gora Kadan Fuji, a 42-room ryokan offering private onsen bathing and dining, allowing golfers to combine their round with an overnight stay.
