Steenberg Golf Club is one of Cape Town’s premier golf courses. Designed by legendary architect Peter Matkovich, the Parkland golf course is surrounded by the Steenberg Estate and Hotel with luxury accommodation available. Voted ‘Best Foreign Golf Resort in the World’ by Conde Naste Traveller Magazine in 2012 and 2nd Best in the World overall, Steenberg is a must-play during your South Africa golf trip. The entire complex is family-owned, and the Estate is the oldest farm in Cape Town, being in existence as an entity since 1612. Nearby golf attractions consist of Royal Cape, Clovelly Estate, Erinvale Estate and Westlake Golf Club. We recommend staying Cape Town for a week and playing all its best golf courses while staying on the waterfront.
Extensive design by Peter Matkovich has turned Steenberg golf course into one of Cape Town’s premier courses. Though he adopts a minimalist-approach to golf course design that focuses on giving back to the environment, Matkovich had to redesign the landscape at Steenberg with the process involving building a stream to manage water-flow from the surrounding mountain. The stream is a vital feature of the golf course and enjoyed by many; it comes into play multiple times throughout the 18-holes.
There is no doubt that Steenberg is a beautiful golf course. The remaining test is how it plays, and it features in the Western Cape’s 15 best golf courses. Routed through the Steenberg Estate and vineyards, a more pleasant round of golf cannot be found than at Steenberg. The 7th hole is a signature par-3 to an island green that is protected by five bunkers and on three sides by a large lake. Many photo opportunities present themselves at Steenberg Golf Club; be sure to have your camera accessible.
Practice Facilities
The golf practice facilities at Steenberg Golf Club consist of a full-length driving range, multiple putting greens and a short-game area with practice bunker. Also onsite is the EOGA Golf Academy. Clubhouse
