A signature Jack Nicklaus-designed course, Pearl Valley opened in 2003. Situated on a 500-acre estate in the Cape Winelands of South Africa, Pearl Valley is one of Africa’s best golf courses and highly rated by those fortunate enough to experience it. The South African Open was held at Pearl Valley for three consecutive years from 2007. Overall it is a stunning parkland golf course with a modern design and stunning South African scenery; the course is highly entertaining, and it is a must-play for any golf trip involving the Cape Town area. The Pearl Valley Golf Club features on our Stellenbosch golf travel package, which also includes Erinvale, De Zalze, and Devonvale golf courses. Pearl Valley is directly east of Cape Town and other golf courses such as Westlake, Royal Cape and Steenberg golf clubs.
A signature Jack Nicklaus golf course should not need an introduction, The Pearl Valley golf course lies between the Simonsberg and Drakenstein mountain ranges in South Africa’s wine country, so wine lovers rejoice! Widely regarded as the most visually spectacular golf course in South Africa, Pearl Valley has received praise after praise for its all-season fairways, stark-white bunker sand and dazzling water features. Large greens are often by Nicklaus signature-style of shallow, long and oddly shaped, reminiscent of Alister MacKenzie’s Royal Melbourne golf course.
The prevailing wind ensures you always measure the distance and shape your shot appropriately, though the wide fairways allow some stray shots to find some cut grass. Despite the large amount of water on the course, it does not always come directly into play. The greens are fast and run very true, so you will need to bring your best putter to score well. Pearl Valley is one of the best all round golf experiences in South Africa that we highly recommend.
Practice Facilities
A recent renovation saw the practice facilities double in size at Pearl Valley, so that there is ample space for warming up. A full length driving range, putting green and short-range chipping area all available to golfers with a green fee for that day.
Clubhouse and Pro Shop
The golf shop at Pearl Valley offers the latest apparel and offers a broad range of clothing, footwear and clubs. You will be spoilt for choice when shopping for souvenirs or grabbing the essentials before your round. Manned by qualified PGA professionals, they offer individual club fittings and customisation. The half-way house is on the ground floor of the Clubhouse and makes a quick stop even more convenient. A wide range of food, snacks and beverages are available between nines. The Clubhouse offers The Valley Restaurant, which features a wide selection of award-winning wines offering the freshest regional produce and imported bottles. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, The Valley Restaurant features views over Pearl Valley’s Jack Nicklaus signature golf course under the towering Simonsberg Mountain.
