Originally known as ‘The Wadi,’ (Arabic for Valley) the Faldo Course at Emirates Golf Club was designed by Sir Nick Faldo in 1996. The Emirates Golf Club’s second course, it was built around its sibling The Majilis, encompassing the perimeter of The Emirates Golf Club. Located just minutes from downtown Dubai, the Emirates Golf Club is a lifestyle retreat for golfers in the heart of Dubai, the crown of the Middle East. The Faldo Course is open for day and night golf. The new course was opened for play in 2006 when it underwent the name change to The Faldo Course. When visiting The Faldo Course, be sure to play the nearby Montgomerie Links, The Els Club and Jumeirah Golf Estate’s Fire & Earth golf courses. The Emirates Faldo par-72 layout is more accessible to golfers of all abilities when compared with The Majilis, but it features many characteristics that make the golf course a thoroughly worthwhile experience.
As the second golf course at Emirates Golf Club, The Faldo Course rings the Majilis Course. There is much to be said about the Faldo Course, but if one trait were required more than others, it would be accuracy with every shot. Every hole has challenges in the form of sand traps, lakes, waste lands, run-off areas and multi-tiered greens. Being able to place the ball on the correct side of the fairway, then pin-high is a must on The Faldo Course. Designed by 6-time major winner Sir Nick Faldo, the course presents a fun challenge by day or night.
There are 14 lakes on the course are well positioned from an aesthetic and challenge perspective. Several holes play into doglegs which makes it demanding to navigate off the tee. The Majilis is the crown of Emirates Golf Club, but if you have time, The Faldo Course is a worthwhile course to play. The playing conditions are always immaculate, with manicured greens and consistent cuts of grass through the entire 18 holes. The Faldo Course presents a true test of one’s golfing abilities with its demand for precision; various holes have small landing areas that requires the right combination of distance and aim. Adding to the experience is that the course is lit with LED lights at night so you can get the full experience away from the day’s heat.
Clubhouse
The Emirates Golf Clubhouse was developed by BSBG to resemble the culturally-significant Bedouin tents. The Clubhouse is iconic in the golfing world and decadent by all standards. Inside, you can dine at one of four eateries. The Carine Restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and features French Mediterranean cuisine. The Roseleaf Café is open for breakfast and lunch. The Spike Bar is open for lunch and dinner and features international cuisine. Jones the Grocer features Australian cuisine, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Elsewhere in the Emirates Clubhouse, you will find a well-stocked pro shop stocking brands such as Peter Millar, Ralph Lauren and FootJoy.
Practice Facilities
Golfers can brush up on your skills at the Peter Cowen Academy at Emirates Golf Club. Facilities include two floodlit driving ranges, putting greens, two specific short game areas, a par-3 course (Academy only), and practice bunkers. Golfers who utilise the academy can utilise a trackman range, SAM Puttlab, V1 teaching software and onsite PGA professionals. There are packages available for tuition, otherwise you can utilise the range for a fee.
