Dundonald Links has quickly become recognised as one of EuropeтАЩs must-play links golf courses. Designed by Kyle Phillips, it was the proud host to the 2017 Aberdeen Assert Management Gents and Ladies Scottish Opens and closely follows Royal Troon’s Old Course as one of the Ayrshire Coast’s best golf courses. The Club prides itself on its environmental practices and in 2014 was awarded тАШUK Environmental Golf Course of the YearтАЩ by the STRI and тАШGEO CertificationтАЩ a trusted symbol of great golf environments worldwide. Although the site doesn’t occupy the best of the area’s natural dune-land, Kyle Phillips’ design contains all the attributes of a classic links layout. Occupying what was originally relatively flat terrain, the layout now benefits from gently undulating fairways as you thread your way through the dune-like mounds and gorse bushes. Strategically located pot bunkering is much in evidence around the greens. Neatly trimmed water ditches also play their part in the course’s defences, especially guarding approach shots into the long par-5 18th green. Among an excellent collection of short holes, the par-3 11th and par-3 15th both use deep pot bunkers to up the “intimidation factor” as you look from tee to green.
In true links fashion, the large undulating greens are flanked by slick run-off areas, which carry the ball away from the putting surface into challenging bump-and-run territory. Separated from the seashore by Western Gailes Golf Club and flanked by Gailes Links to the north and Kilmarnock Barassie to the south, Dundonald offers only occasional glimpses of the sea. In keeping with its neighbours, it does, however, lay down a fair and challenging test of golf, never more so than when the wind is blowing. The Dundonald Links golf course lies close to Killmarnock Barassie Links and the Gailes & Western Gailes Links golf courses.
Clubhouse and pro Shop
Lessons are available from PGA Professionals and golf clinics can be arranged for group and corporate golf days. Visitors can also buy the latest in golf equipment and apparel. The service is set to the high standards of its owner, the world-renowned Loch Lomond Golf Club. The Clubhouse is positioned to allow views of the Isle of Arran, and on a nice day you can sit on the balcony and watch golfers on several holes. The well-stocked Pro Shop offers the latest golfing equipment and apparel. The Locker Rooms at Dundonald are designed with golfers in mind, they offer plenty of space for kit bags, shoes, and more formal attire, while the washrooms have powerful showers тАУ ideal for revitalising body and mind before enjoying some much-needed refreshments.
Practice Area
The practice area at Dundonald has an exceptional 330-yard-long range allowing up to 35 golfers to hit simultaneously from manicured turf as well as a short game area with bunkers, and a putting green designed to provide players with an accurate insight into the slopes and pace they can expect on the course. It is the perfect place to learn the game or to brush up on your skills with the help of our resident pros. Baskets of balls are available from the Pro Shop. With views of the Isle of Arran as well as the 9th and 18th greens, the Spike Bar is the perfect place to enjoy drinks, snacks or a meal. The Food and Beverage team offers special menus for events and golf groups of 12 or more.
