Originally dating back to 1838, the De Zalze complex traces its history through three wine-producing farms that blended to form a larger estate. The Estate has a working wine farm named Kleine Zalze, as well as fairways surrounded by serene vineyards, olive groves & lavender fields, which all produce marketable crops for the De Zalze Estate. In the heart of South Africa’s wine country, within the Stellenbosch area, De Zalze occupies 750 acres of premium real estate. It is relatively new, opening in 2001. Golfers of all abilities can thoroughly enjoy the De Zalze golf course year-round. De Zalze Golf Club features on our Stellenbosch golf travel package, along with Erinvale Golf Club, Pearl Valley, and Devonvale Golf Club.
With a range of tee options, you can be a professional or a beginner and still enjoy all De Zalze has to offer. The 18-hole layout offers an amazing mix of parkland holes with the addition of oak trees lining the Blaauwklippen River that meanders through the course and comes into play at various intervals. A great all-round golf course that offers tranquil scenery of vineyards and nearby mountains, De Zalze’s course features go from strength to strength with fast and true greens combined with a layout that demands strategy. The holes are set on undulating terrain that enables bigger hitters to go for the greens with a real risk-reward layout that punishes misplaced shots.
Water often features on the course with a river running through serves as De Zalze’s biggest strengths. Par-5s are often reachable and tempting for birdie opportunities but if you fail to hit over the frequent water hazards, you will be scrambling to save bogeys. With its course meandering through residential areas of the greater De Zalza estate, the course feels more like a resort than old parkland style, with no two holes the same due to the expansive routing of the 18.
Practice Facilities
De Zalze has extensive practice facilities, so you can warm up in style. It offers a full length driving range, putting green, chipping and short-game area with a practice bunker, all walking distance from the 1st and 10th tee.
Pro Shop & Clubhouse
The Pro Shop at De Zalze is very large and offers the latest international brand golf attire and accessories as well as golf clubs. Even non-golfers can enjoy the range of attire and souvenirs on offer at De Zalze Pro Shop. The Clubhouse restaurant and lounge offers outdoor seating on their terrace with panoramic views of the golf course and surrounding mountains. The Terrace menu serves breakfast all day with lunch options ranging from light meals, salads and platters to gourmet burgers handcrafted from specially selected cuts of meat to main courses and wood-fired pizzas.
The halfway house offers a wide range of self service foods, snacks and beverages and a variety of buffet-style hot foods. The golfers have an option for a quick breakfast or light meal before teeing off, a short break between nines and an opportunity to stock up for the second nine.
