Sand Valley Resort emblem

Situated in the middle of Wisconsin, Sand Valley Resort is one of America’s newest, up-and-coming golf destinations. The Resort is just 50 minutes by car from the famous SentryWorld Golf Course and 25-minutes from Wisconsin Rapids. The Resort is a golfer’s paradise that is not dissimilar from Streamsong Resort or Bandon Dunes. Accommodations at Sand Valley Resort range from hotel rooms to private cottages, with four separate dining outlets. The Sand Valley experience is one of dedicated passion to the game of golf, surrounded by like-minded individuals and groups; it is a purpose-built destination worth a weeklong stay. Sand Valley is owned by Mike Keiser who is the founder of Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. Sand Valley opened in 2017 and will feature on the front page of many golf publications for years to come; it has all the hallmarks of a great golf destination.

    Golf Course Information

    Sand Valley (Coore & Crenshaw)

The Sand Valley golf course is the Resort’s original course, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. Opening in 2017, Sand Valley is rated as the 18th Greatest Public Course by Golf Digest, and “Best New Course” by Golf Magazine. The course has a modern links layout with a par of 72, and length of 6,938-yards or 6,344-metres. Visiting golfers enjoy the openness of the golf course which allows golfers of all abilities to play, but it has many challenges in the form of waste areas, large sand bunkers and undulating surfaces, as well as tricky greens.  The Sand Valley golf course is a mix of links and heathland that draws inspiration from the U.K Courses such as Swinley Forest, Sunningdale and Walton Heath.

    Mammoth Dunes (David McLay Kidd)

The second golf course at Sand Valley was designed by David McLay Kidd in 2018 and is named Mammoth Dunes on account of the elevation changes throughout the course, and the abundance of sand dunes everywhere you look. Everything about the golf course is large, with mammoth fairways, big accessible greens and towering trees, it is a whole lot of fun. Kidd built a golf course that makes it difficult to distinguish where the golf course finishes and the sand dunes begin; fairways fade into red sand like Pinehurst Resort and Streamsong. Minimalism is a big feature at Mammoth Dunes with tee boxes placed at the start of fairways and dunes blending with bunkers and greens. Just remember to bring your sand iron.

    Resort Dining

    Aldo’s Farm & Table

Aldo’s is named after the American environmentalist Aldo Leopold; its cuisine features a contemporary, farm-to-table experience with the option to dine indoors or out on the three-seasons porch where you will enjoy views over the Mammoth Dunes golf course. The food served by Aldo’s is sourced from local farmers and purveyors and features a wide variety of dishes that will nourish you after a long day on the links.

    Mammoth Bar

The Mammoth Bar at Sand Valley Resort offers rustic dining with indoor and outdoor seating. The Bar specialises in craft beers, specialty cocktails, and a variety of American dishes that showcase the diversity from East to West. The Bar is fun, full of atmosphere and located in a large barn-like building with contemporary furniture throughout.

    Craig’s Porch

Craig’s Porch overlooks Sand Valley’s first, tenth and eighteenth holes, and offers refreshing drinks, delicious food and stunning views. The food is on the lighter side and meant to appease the taste buds rather than fill the belly; it also acts as a half-way house for the Sand Valley golf course. Non-golfers can sit back and enjoy the view of the golf course while enjoying a light meal, cold drink and fantastic views.

    Sand Valley Food Truck

The newest edition to Sand Valley Resort is the food truck which offers tasty cuisine in a chic outdoor setting. The elevated truck offers a fun assortment of street food and even a signature cocktail, while it has wine barrels for those wanting to stand or tables & chairs for those wishing to sit back and soak it all in. Hanging fairy lights across the area ensure the atmosphere is magical at the Sand Valley Food Truck.

    Resort Facilities

Sand Box Golf Course (Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw)

The short 17-hole Sand Box golf course at Sand Valley is the perfect way to warm up, enjoy an off-day or settle bets from the other two golf courses. Holes range from 40 to 140 yards, and feature some of the most unique green complexes on the property. Coore & Crenshaw let their minds run wild at the Sand Box golf course, with the highlights being a Biarritz, double plateau, lion’s mouth and a redan green structures. The short golf course has a par of 51 and is a must-play during your Sand Valley visit to get the most out of your experience.

    Tennis

There is more to Sand Valley than just golf; non-golfers can make use of 15 outdoor tennis courts which are all bordered by the same dunes that frame the Sand Valley and Mammoth Dunes golf courses. The grass tennis courts allow entry for all skill levels to have fun. There are five fescue grass tennis courts and ten ryegrass tennis courts. Players are welcome to embrace the tradition of grass tennis by wearing white (Wimbledon), but ensure smooth-sole shoes are worn at all times. Players can participate in private lessons, daily clinics, and summer camps, with rental equipment available for those who only brought their golf clubs. The best feature is the ability for you to request a ball person to enhance your tennis experience; they retrieve your tennis balls to speed up play.

    Hiking & Running

Sand Valley occupies a vast area of land, and owner Mike Keiser wanted to ensure that all the land was used, not just for golf. There are a series of trails that meander throughout the properties that incorporate the best natural beauty that Sand Valley has to offer. The trails are open to both day guests and lodging guests and feature expansive views of sand blowouts, red pine plantations, and majestic oak savannahs. There are three trails which have distances of 1.2, 1.5 and 3 miles respectively.

    Bocce

Finish your golf competition on the Bocce field with one of the oldest games in the world: throwing a ball toward a target. The Bocce areas feature incredible views over Mammoth Dunes’ first & eighteenth holes. The courts are located on the Karner Terrace and allow for play by up to 16 players; they are complementary and operate on a first-come, first-service basis.

    Fishing & Swimming

Sand Valley Resort has three lakes which are available for a mix of fishing, swimming and more for those staying in the 4-bed or 8-bed cottages. Located beside the ninth hole at Sand Valley Golf Course, Lake Leopold is an integral part of the Sand Valley experience. Choose from a kayak, paddleboard, or swimming in the lake’s pristine waters. Alternatively, contact the front desk about dropping a line in the glistening waters to catch your very own fish.

    Fitness Centre

For those wanting to keep fit in a gym, look no further than the Sand Valley gymnasium. The fitness centre is located on the lower level of the Clubhouse and is open 24/7 to resort guests. You may want to work on the weights, maintain cardio levels or stretch out your muscles before or after your round. Choose from two treadmills, two ellipticals, two bikes, a stretching area and free-weight area.
