Located on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula, just under 30 minutes from Geelong and 90 minutes from Melbourne, the new Lonsdale Links Golf Course occupies a prime stretch of land overlooking Bass Strait. Lonsdale Links is just minutes from the Queenscliff ferry terminal, so visitors from the Mornington Peninsula get quick access after taking the 40-minute ferry from Sorrento.  The golf course opened in 2020 but already holds its own against its Bellarine golfing neighbours such as 13th Beach and Barwon Heads Golf Club. The set-up at Lonsdale Links comprises an 18-hole links golf course, superb practice facilities, a 6-hole short-course named ‘Mulligans’ and an outstanding clubhouse & pro shop.
The team at OCM Golf designed Lonsdale Links by drawing on the great golf holes around the world, some of which include: The Redan, Eden, Leven, Punchbowl and The Road Hole. The course is relatively short in modern links terms, but its design and situation amongst swampy land make for an exciting challenge. The par-70 golf course at Point Lonsdale presents challenges in the form of wastelands, challenging green complexes, bouncy fairways and strong winds coming from the Great Australian Bight. The golf course draws parallels with Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course, as its combination of marshy topography and cunning layout combine a visually stunning links golf course.
The Bellarine Peninsula and Mornington Peninsula were once connected by land. Since water flowed in to create Port Phillip Bay, the two Peninsulas were created, millions of years ago. The geography of Point Lonsdale and the indented head of the Bellarine Peninsula established a low-lying area of land typically marshy underfoot from Swan Bay to Ocean Grove. Lonsdale Links sits right at the end of Point Lonsdale, between Bass Straight and the Lonsdale Lakes Wildlife Reserve. The golf course incorporates water features together with a sandy terrain and native Australian bushland to create a fun 18-hole links golf course, all with a distinctly Australian outlook. To put it simply, Lonsdale Links is a great golf course.
Practice Facilities
The golf practice facilities at Lonsdale Links are fantastic. Golfers & members can utilise buckets of golf balls (small fee involved) on the driving range, short game area and putting green. There is scheduled maintenance of the practice range on Monday and Friday mornings until 0930 AM. To immerse yourself in the experience, make your 18-hole round a 24-hole round by playing the six-hole short course named ‘Mulligans Short Six.’ The par-3 course costs just AUD 10 to play, and offers a great way to warm up before your round, or settle bets after your round.
Clubhouse & Dining
The Clubhouse at Lonsdale Links on the Bellarine Peninsula is not to be skipped. Architecturally designed by Melbourne-based Wood Marsh Firm, the Clubhouse features a well-stocked Pro Shop, Golfers Lounge, Restaurant and Kiosk. The Golfers Lounge offers casual dining overlooking the golf course and Lake Victoria. Featuring a stunning open fireplace, the Golfers Lounge is a one-stop shop for relaxation after your round. The Lago Restaurant offers great food and service, perched atop the highest point of the facility. The views, food and service at the Lonsdale Links Lago Restaurant are worth coming back for. The seasonal Kiosk serves takeaway snacks and beverages to golfers; when not in use, you are welcome to get your snacks and takeaway from The Golfers Lounge.
