The Victoria Golf Club is ranked by Golf Digest as the 11th best in Australia and has been host to major international championships including multiple Australian Men’s & Women’s Opens, the Australian PGA, Australian Masters and the World Amateur Women’s Championship. The prestigious club was founded in 1903 but moved to its current location in 1927, where the new course was designed by Oscar Damman and Bill Meader with the knowledgeable assistance from Dr Alister MacKenzie. The Victoria Golf Clubhouse is regarded as one of the best in Australia for service, facilities and quality of food. In 2019, renovations were completed on all greens and tee boxes which saw the grass quality improve manifestly into reinvigorated world-class putting surfaces. We recommend playing Victoria Golf Club in conjunction with nearby golf courses including Royal Melbourne, The Metropolitan, Commonwealth and Kingston Heath. While visiting Melbourne, accommodation is more diverse in the city area, and we recommend renting a vehicle during your visit. The drive from Melbourne to the Sandbelt region is just over half an hour.

Golf Course Information

Situated in the heart of Melbourne’s Sandbelt region, the Victoria Golf Club is one of the more challenging golf courses amongst its contemporaries. The greens are lightning-fast and the bunkers are on-par with Kingston Heath and Royal Melbourne. The entire back nine demands precision from the tees and an even more accurate approach shots to the greens. Mike Clayton was commissioned to make some alterations fairly recently which included the restoration of bunkers that had been grassed over, the regeneration of the course’s trees and a regeneration of the greens. The result was a reinvigorated Victoria Golf Club and a sustaining position as one of Australia’s best golf courses.

The course itself is more open than Kingston Heath on the airways and around the greens, but there is also long reeds and grass in many places that aren’t reflected on other Sandbelt golf courses. Whilst the back nine is known as one of the best stretch of holes in the Sandbelt region, the entire course has strong golf holes that makes it a regular favourite amongst both domestic and international golf travellers. The greens play firm, fast and true, with many of the classic Sandbelt style bunkers framing and supporting the greens both artistically and functionally. Overall, players who have experienced multiple courses in the Sandbelt region have praised Victoria Golf Club as their Top 3, or complimented the service and experience during their time there; it is a must-play golf course and a guaranteed good time.
