The Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club is located on the southern end of Melbourne’s famous Sandbelt golf region. It is home to two championship golf courses, The North and the South, and has all the practice facilities fit for a world-class golf resort. Kingswood has a history dating back to 1904, which is long for Australian standards. Originally known as the Dandenong Golf Club, a committee formed in the 1920s to investigate a new site after their old site was intruded upon by Melbourne’s expanding suburbs. In 1937, the Club took up residence on 120 acres of undulating garden land in Dingley Village, which was subsequently named “Kingswood.” Two golf courses have since been created; they were designed by Mick and Vernon Morcom, veterans of the Sandbelt region’s golf course design. Since then, the prestige and renown of the Kingswood North and South course has only grown.

Nearby golf destinations include The National Golf Club Long Island, Kingston Heath and Commonwealth Golf Club. We recommend staying in Melbourne and renting a vehicle to experience these famous Sandbelt golf courses.

Golf Course Information

The North Course plays over sandy and undulating ground, making a pure Sandbelt experience. Firm and fast with tilted greens, expansive bunkers, wide fairways and roughs that combine sand, native grasses and heathland vegetation that the Sandbelt region is known for. With large imposing trees and dense bush lining the fairways, those who aren’t consistently straight of the tee will feel as if the holes are constricted and tight for the entire 18-holes, but it is not oppressively tight, and it is rather generous if you can simply keep the ball straight, as it’s not too lengthy playing off the ordinary tees.

Other fantastic features on the course include elevation changes, often with a high amount of foliage to carry the ball over, doglegs around tree-lined fairways with enormous bunkers to keep it exhilarating. The best feature of the golf course though is its greens; many come surrounded by the region’s famous Sandbelt bunkers that are wide, flattish and irregularly shaped, which is reflected on the green surfaces. Many come tilted and with subtle undulations that will frustrate and intimidate sub-par putters, but they are honest and true; providing a challenge whilst keeping a smile on your face.
