Golf Course Information

The Open Course at Moonah Links is a championship golf course that has been constructed to make best use of the land in which it lies. The modern links course has naturally-draining sandy soil that allows golf to be played year-round. It is the kind of course that was designed to really test the professional golfers from the back tees with consistently long par-4 holes throughout the 18-hole layout. It is was made for The Australian Open and is the first ever course built and prepared for a national championship to give one an idea as to the calibre of course that was established on the Mornington Peninsula.

The Open Course at Moonah Links was completed in 2002, and in 2003 it hosted the Australian Open Championship which was won by Peter Lonard. In 2005, Robert Allenby claimed the title. The course provides a real challenge to the average golfer, but it is a fair test and requires the right amount of strategy, precision-hitting and fair weather will create not only an exhilarating day but a score on-par with your handicap. Deep fairway bunkers are often the biggest blights on golfers’ scorecards, and the prevailing winds the come from the Great Australian Bight make the course rugged in true links fashion. If you are ever given the opportunity to play at the Moonah Links Resort, play The Open Course in the morning for the challenge and the Legends Course in the afternoon for fun.
