Event Information

The Masters Tournament: Golf’s Iconic Invitational

The Masters is one of golf’s most revered championships and the third-oldest major, following The Open Championship and the U.S. Open. Unlike any other major, The Masters is an invitational event, traditionally featuring a field of fewer than 100 elite players. Held each April at the storied Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, it’s the first major of the year, wrapping up on the second Sunday of the month.

The winner receives more than just a share of the USD 15 million prize purse—they’re awarded the iconic Green Jacket, a symbol of golfing greatness. Past champions include legends like Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Sir Nick Faldo, as well as modern stars such as Scottie Scheffler, Dustin Johnson, Adam Scott, and Hideki Matsuyama.

What Makes The Masters Unique

The Masters is the only major played at the same venue every year—Augusta National—renowned for its immaculate conditioning, strategic design, and blooming azaleas. The course’s history runs deep, with each hole named after a tree or shrub from the former plant nursery on the site.

The tournament unfolds over four days (Thursday to Sunday), consisting of 72 holes of stroke play. After 36 holes, a cut is made, usually leaving the top 50 players (including ties) to continue through the weekend. In the event of a tie after the final round, a sudden-death playoff determines the champion, starting on the 18th hole and, if needed, continuing to the 10th. This format was introduced in 1976 and adds a dramatic finish to an already intense competition.

Tradition Meets Competition

Beyond the Green Jacket, The Masters is steeped in traditions—from honorary starters on Thursday morning to the Champions Dinner held the Tuesday prior, where the previous year’s winner selects the menu. These customs, paired with the calibre of the field and the exclusivity of the event, make The Masters a truly unique fixture in the golfing world.

The Golf You'll Play

Palmetto Golf Club
Founded in 1892, Palmetto Golf Club is one of the oldest clubs in the United States. The greens are as fast as Augusta, and we believe the playing experience here feels as close to Augusta as you'll get.
The Reserve Club at Woodside
The Reserve Club is a private club designed by Greg Norman. It opened in 2002 and has since become a staple for our golf trips. The overall club experience is phenomenal and a you'll notice the extra effort staff go to for your visit.

The Masters Tournament, one of the four major championships in professional golf, was founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts. The inaugural Masters took place in 1934 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, USA.

Obtaining tickets to The Masters, one of the most prestigious golf tournaments held at Augusta National Golf Club, can be a unique process. Please note, there are limited tickets available through the lottery. Most tickets become available through resellers and operators who attain their tickets from patrons who receive face-value tickets each year. Verifying your tickets can be a difficult process so please exercise caution if dealing with a 'friend' who says they can get tickets, or an unrecognised operator. Here are the steps to consider if you want to attend.

1. Visit the Official Masters Website: Check the official Masters Tournament website (https://www.masters.com/) for the most up-to-date information on ticket sales, policies, and procedures.

2.  Explore Ticket Options: The Masters offers various ticket options, including Practice Round tickets and Tournament tickets. Practice Round tickets are usually available for the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday leading up to the tournament, while Tournament tickets are for the actual competition days (Thursday to Sunday).

3. Check for Ticket Lotteries: The Masters uses a lottery system for ticket sales. Keep an eye on the official website for announcements regarding the opening of the ticket application process. The lottery system allows you to enter for a chance to purchase tickets.

4. Apply for the Lottery: You can apply for tickets at www.masters.com, and follow the instructions on the website to apply. This may include providing payment information even before knowing if you've won the chance to purchase tickets.

5. Contact a Golf Operator: If you're unable to secure tickets through the official channels, you can explore reputable secondary ticket markets. Keep in mind that prices on secondary markets can be higher than face value.

6. Beware of Scams: Due to the high demand for Masters tickets, be cautious of scams and 'friends of friends' who claim to be able to access tickets. Stick well-known operators to ensure the authenticity of your tickets. Here at Voyages.golf, we've been taking clients to The Masters for decades.

Our Masters packages, escorted tours including Masters tickets, usually go on sale 12 months prior to the Masters event. For The Masters 2025, our travel packages and escorted tour are on sale now.

There are two places we recommend you stay during your visit to The Masters. The tournament is held on Washington Road. About 1 mile to the west is a small cluster of accommodation including The Quality Inn & Suites, Staybridge Suites, Country Inn & Suites, and Wingate Augusta Hotels. These are the closest to the tournament. If you stay at these hotels, you can walk to the Golf Club.

If you want to stay in the main town, it takes a little longer to get to the tournament but it is only 5 miles east of Augusta, along Washington Road. The best hotels to stay at include the Marriott Augusta Convention Centre, The Partridge Inn and the Holiday Inn. There are more restaurants available, but it is further from the tournament, and transfers are required.

If you are visiting The Masters and staying 1 mile west of The Golf Club, there are a couple of great options to eat. See your options below:

  • The Bonefish Grill
  • Outback Steakhouse
  • T-Bonz Steakhouse
  • Red Lobster
  • Texas Roadhouse
  • Carrabbas Italian

If you are staying in the main Augusta Town, we recommend the following restaurants:

  • Beamies at The River
  • Sole Augusta
  • Augustino's Italian
  • Farmhaus Burger
  • Laziza's Mediterranean
  • El Presidente Mexican Restaurant

Due to the unregulated ticket market, securing tickets through the lottery is extremely difficult and that makes the scarcity of patron's tickets something to be wary of due to the high amount of scams. Adding to the issue is limited accommodation Augusta which is a small town. We don't recommend organizing your own Masters trip due to these reasons. It is always best to seek your hotel and ticket package from an operator like Voyages.golf. It is much easier for you that way, because you don't have to worry about scams, and everything is arranged for you including transfers, play-golf experiences and we'll even make dinner reservations for the group.

Yes, all our packages and tours are produced by Voyages.golf, and managed by our founders & directors. The Masters is a special event and you'll be escorted by our team throughout the event.

We have been taking guests to The Masters since 1993, and over the decades we've formed strong relationships with various ticket suppliers. You can rest assured we've never had an issue with tickets & yours are guaranteed.
