Home to the 2009 US LPGA and 2015 Thailand Open, the Plantation Course at Siam Country Club near Pattaya, Thailand, is a masterpiece that must be included in your golf trip. Designed by Lee Schmidt of Schmidt-Curley Design Incorporated, the Plantation Course features 27-holes of golf across three separate nines. Allowing for play with different routing, the course is long for Asian standards with length ranging from (depending on the combination of nines) 7,404 or 7,495 yards. The ‘Plantation’ name was given in the honour of the historic Sugar Cane, Tapioca and Pineapple plantations, with each nine named accordingly. The other two golf courses at Siam Country Club are the Old Course and Waterside Course; we recommend playing all three during your Pattaya golf holiday.
A challenging course across all three nines, The Plantation Course at Siam Country Club in Thailand is routed through rolling terrain in a parkland layout and distant views of surrounding lush scenery. Some spots allow you to view the ocean within the Gulf of Thailand. The challenges throughout the Plantation Course’s 27 holes come in varied formats, including long carries, blind shots, elevated greens, undulating fairways & greens, high-lipped bunkers and doglegs. It is exhilarating to play any nine on the Plantation course despite its challenging features.
The first triple green in Asia is on the Plantation Course, housing the Tapioca and Pineapple nines, and measuring 20,000 square feet (1,916 square metres). The outstanding hole to look out for is the par-5 fifth on the Sugar Cane nine, with a 596-yard/545-metre uphill scramble with 28 bunkers, the fairway leads to a two-tier raised green. It is definitely a hole to be wary of, but it will be a highlight of your trip. One thing to note is that carts are mandatory on the Plantation Course due to the long routing of the course and elevation changes, but carts are restricted to the cart paths.
Practice Facilities for the Plantation Course include a grass driving range complete with short-game pitching area, sand bunker and various putting greens. The practice facilities are designed to emulate the course with the bunker and putting greens containing the same surfaces as you will find during play.
The clubhouse for the Plantation Course is contemporary and was designed very well. A spacious lounge area, overlooking the triple green of the course with a fully-stocked Pro Shop that stocks both the biggest brand and Siam Country Club’s own-branded equipment and attire. The Pattaya City restaurant is a fantastic place to enjoy a cold drink and meal before or after your round, it is located within the Plantation Course clubhouse.
