    About

The Scottish Open returns in July 2024 as the Genesis Scottish Open. The prestigious tournament provides players with one of the last opportunities to qualify for The Open Championship. The tournament was last staged in 2023 at the Renaissance Golf Club just 40-minutes east of Scotland’s capital at Edinburgh, along the famous East Lothian golf coast, between Muirfield Golf Club and North Berwick Golf Club. Be there in July to witness the best of the best battle it out at the Genesis Scottish Open, a Rolex Series European Tour event, set a week before The 152nd Open at Royal Troon.

    Event Information

The Renaissance Golf Club – Host of the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open

The Renaissance Golf Club is an exclusive private-members golf club situated 23 miles from Edinburgh’s city-centre. The links golf course can be experienced through a one-time ‘Renaissance Experience’ programme that allows non-members to experience the golf course and facilities on Mondays or Wednesdays and includes their iconic 3-course lunch. The most popular method is staying one night in the onsite accommodation that the Renaissance Experience provides. The Scottish Open has been part of the Rolex Series events since 2017, and The Renaissance Club previously hosted the tournament in 2020, with England’s Aaron Rai being the current champion. The prize fund was increased when the tournament gained ‘Rolex’ status to USD 7 million, making the event a highly sought-after experience. The Renaissance Golf Course was designed by Tom Doak, who also designed Cape Kidnappers, Barnbougle and Bandon Dunes’ Pacific Dunes, while the course opened for play in 2008. The Golf Club’s exclusivity and renown for hosting The Scottish Open make The Renaissance Club one of the most alluring golf courses in Scotland.

    Scottish Open Format

The Scottish Open follows other Open Championship formats with a 1-day practice round known as the Pro-Am, followed by four tournament days. The tournament is stroke play, meaning golfers count their shots over the four tournament days and whoever has the fewest consecutive shots over the tournament wins. Play is conducted over four days from Thursday to Sunday, with the original field of 156 players cut to 72 after Friday’s round.
