Morikawa Wins the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park

Collin Morikawa wins the 2020 PGA Championship

USA young gun Collin Morikawa has won the 102nd PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, California. 2020 has seen the annual U.S major played without fans for the first time in history.

The PGA Tournament was decided when Collin Morikawa finished with a bogey-free 64 (6-under) to win the prestigious tournament. The leaderboard looked tight on Sunday afternoon with five people sitting equal first at 10 under. Englishman Paul Casey finished with a 4-under 66 to make a total score of -11, while Dustin Johnson finished with a 2-under 68, equalling Casey’s final score. Johnson has come runner up in three out of the last five PGA Championships. Other notables on the final leaderboard include Jason Day who finished -10 after leading the scoreboard on the first day and Bryson DeChambeau who broke his driver on the first day of the tournament.

Collin Morikawa is the ninth player to win a PGA Championship in his major debut; the last to do so was Keegan Bradley in 2011. The 2020 PGA Championship is Morikawa’s third win on the PGA Tour and first major win. His success as a 23-year-old has some likening the young gun to Tiger Woods who was also 23 when he won his first major. The young star will have the winners’ share of US $11 million (2 million), while Paul Casey and Dustin Johnson will each take US $960,000 from the prize pool.

Fanless U.S Major

For the first time ever, a golf major was played without fans. The lack of crowds certainly made the PGA Championship less regal than previous years, but the star-studded lineup and determination of participants brings hope that the 2021 PGA Championship, scheduled for Kiawah Island in South Carolina, will be accessible to all golf fans.

The Future

The next US Major scheduled for California is the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines. The golf tournament is scheduled for Southern California in San Diego between 17-20 June 2021. The next PGA Championship will be held at South Carolina’s Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course in May 2021. There is optimism that fans will be able to attend all PGA tournaments in 2021, so contact us to begin arranging your travel plans.
