Previously the Abderdeen Standard Investments Open & now the Genesis Scottish Open, the co-sanctioned golf tournament retains its venue from 2021 at The Renaissance Club in Scotland’s East Lothian region. The Scottish Open is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and European Tour, but is managed by the European Tour.
Retaining its prime calendar spot just one week prior to The Open Championship, players will get the perfect opportunity to warm up on a world-class links golf course before competing for the famed Claret Jug at Golf’s oldest major: The Open Championship. The 2022 event will be hosted by The Renaissance Club between July 7 – 10, 2022, before The Open Championship commences on the 11th of July. The PGA Tour recently announced that the Genesis Scottish Open would retain its spot one week before The Open Championship, every year until 2025, after which it will have been played at The Renaissance Club seven consecutive times.
The Scottish Open was historically hosted by the famed Loch Lomond Golf Club for many years. The event was disbanded but brought back, and The Rensaissance Club will, in 2022, host the Scottish Open for the fourth time in as many years. Being a co-sanctioned event, The Scottish Open retains its worth towards the FedEx Cup Rankings in the US, and the Race To Dubai for the European Tour.
About The Course
Designed by American Tom Doak, The Renaissance Club is located on Scotland’s East Lothian coastline, just over 30 minutes from Edinburgh. A very private golf club, The Renaissnace Club is situated next to Muirfield & Gullane Golf Clubs. The Course opened in 2008 which is very new by golf course standards. Recently, the club contacted Padraig Harrington to be the new course ‘player consultant,’ who will consult with course designer Tom Doak about matters relating to course design going forward.
