Scottish Open Set For Brighter Future

the Renaissance Club Scotland

Previously the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open, the historic event will return in 2022 as the Genesis Scottish Open. The PGA Tour and European Tour sign a new deal to co-sanction more events.

While the host venue has not yet been announced, the PGA Tour and European Tour have forged a new alliance with respects to their schedules. The alliance will see the Genesis Scottish Open, Barbasol Championship and Barracuda Championship included in both the FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai, while the Irish Open 2022 will see significantly increased prize money.

The European Tour released a statement that the three events mentioned above will be co-sanctioned by the European Tour and PGA Tour. The need for players to rank on the FedEx Cup & Race to Dubai will draw a more star-studded lineup to the UK’s northern corner. The Genesis Scottish Open retains its place a week before The Open 150th Championship, happening in 2022 at St Andrews Links Old Course.

The co-sanctioned event will be a huge opportunity for players and fans alike. The luxury car maker Genesis (South Korea) also sponsors Tiger Woods’ Genesis Invitational in California at the Riviera Country Club in February. Signalling a new era of collaboration between the trans-atlantic Tour bodies, this “partnership connects men’s professional golf through a number of areas, including prize funds and playing opportunities for the respective memberships.”
