The Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open returns for the third time in three years to the East Lothian Golf Coast in July 2021. The Renaissance Club, designed by Tom Doak and opened in 2008, will host the European Tour’s Scottish Open.
In a new announcement by the European Tour, the season will feature a minimum of 42 tournaments played in 24 countries and run from January to November, while eighteen tournaments that were cancelled or postponed due to Covid-19 have returned to the schedule.
The Scottish Open retains its Rolex-series status with a hefty USD 7 million prize fund. The other events to retain the ‘Rolex’ series status are the HSBC Championship, BMW PGA Championship and DP World Tour Championship. The Scottish Open is worth 7,000 points and is considered one of the most important events on the European Tour calendar.
The Renaissance Club
Designed by famed golf architect Tom Doak, The Renaissance Club is next door to the famous Muirfield Golf Course, and close to the popular North Berwick Golf Club on Scotland’s Golf Coast called East Lothian. The Renaissance Club is accessible from the capital Edinburgh; it lies just under 25 miles from the city centre. Doak’s most famous golf course designs are Cape Kidnappers, Tara Iti and Bandon Dunes’ Pacific Dunes. The golf course lies on an old pine forest which was mostly cleared for its development, and some trees remain on the 300 acres. The Renaissance Club hosted its first tournament in 2017 with the Seniors Open which was won by Paul Broadhurst; 2019, 2020 found it hosting the Scottish Open with the same arrangement for 2021.
