After Australian young gun Lucas Herbert took the Irish Open title in 2021, Ireland’s biggest golf event returns to Mount Juliet Estate in County Kilkenny in 2022.
The return of Ireland’s biggest golf tournament in 2022 to the Kilkenny Golf Resort will see its organising body, The European Tour, rebranded to The DP World Tour, thanks to its biggest sponsor. The Irish Open has been dropped by the Rolex Series, however its prize fund will increase from EUR 3 million to EUR 5.1 million. The bigger money prize is certainly going to attract bigger names to the Emerald Isle to contest for The Irish Open on the Jack Nicklaus-designed Mount Juliest Estate golf course.
The JP McManus Pro-Am will take place at Adare Manor (host of the 2027 Ryder Cup) directly after The Irish Open, bwtween July 4-5. This event wil certainly attract bigger stars to compete in both events. The Irish Open will take place a week before the co-sanctioned Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club, which will lead into the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews later in July. The 2022 summer in the UK is set to be huge after the Covid-19 pandemic tore through the UK in 2020 and 2021.
