Located in Canterbury on the South Island of New Zealand, the Terrace Downs Resort has long been in financial trouble, made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic after its Japanese Owner passed away.
Acquired by CPG Hotels, the Terrace Downs Resort reopened in March under the Fable Terrace Downs name which is a sub-brand of boutique hotels in New Zealand’s North and South Islands. Fable Hotels represents a leading brand of luxury hotels in the land of the Long White Cloud, consisting of five current hotels and resorts with four more under development. The Fable Hotels and Resorts are mostly centred around major cities like Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin with more to be opened in Picton, Hanmer Springs and Queenstown.
Although owned by CPG Hotels and bearing the brand name “Fable,” the Terrace Downs Resort has also signed on with MGallery, a sub-brand of the French hotel giant Accor. Ronnie Ronalde, CPG Group Operations Manager, stated “we’re looking forward to elevating Fable Terrace Downs Resort even further to become the premier luxury resort in the Canterbury region.” The par-72 golf course, designed by Sid Puddicombe, is set to keep its championship quality as a top NZ golf course, along with luxury resort activities such as horse riding, archery and clay bird shooting.
The Resort’s new General Manager is a New Zealander with over a decade’s experience in the hospitality industry. With a full refurbishment on the way, the Fable Terrace Downs Resort’s future as a premier golfing location is set to thrive.
