The world-famous Gleneagles Resort in Perthshire, Scotland, will host the iconic Senior Open in 2022. Sunningdale Golf Club’s Old Course is set to host the 2021 Senior Open before the tournament moves north for its 2022 edition.
The Senior Open will be played on The King Course which was designed by Scottish legend James Braid, and opened after the First World War in 1919. The country surrounds and luxury 5-star hotel have made Gleneagles the ultimate destination for golfers for well over a century. 2022 marks the 35th edition of the prestigious tournament, which will take place from 21 – 24 July 2022, just a week after The 150th Open Championship.
Having hosted the 2014 Ryder Cup, and over 26 European Tour events since 1974, Gleneagles Resort is no stranger to marquee events: The 2022 Senior Open will be no different. In 1921, Gleneagles hosted the first international match between American and British golfers, in what is regarded as the precursor to The Ryder Cup. The Senior Open is a Rolex Series event for players aged 50 and over and organised by The R&A. The prize fund is around USD 2 million. In 2018, The Senior Open was held at St Andrews Links Old Course for the first time, which is a major milestone for the tournament (formerly Senior British Open).
