2020 Australian PGA Championship Postponed to 2021

The Australian PGA Championship, originally scheduled for December 2020, has been postponed until February 2021 due to Covid-19.

The PGA of Australia hopes that by postponing the tournament, it will allow Australian borders to re-open to international travellers. Currently there are no inbound flights for tourists. Officials, athletes and coordinators must isolate for 14 days on arrival at their own expense, if they can make it into Australia. Although no announcement has been made by the Queensland or Federal Government about opening up borders, it is widely expected that the beginning of 2021 will see international travellers returning to Australia.

The 2020 Australian PGA Championship will remain at Royal Queensland Golf Club in Brisbane. The new dates are 18 – 21 February 2021. Although it has been delayed until 2021, the PGA of Australia has every intention of the tournament returning to its traditional date late in the year. This means that 2021 will likely see two Australian PGA Championships, which adds to the headaches caused by the Corona Virus in 2021, but gives fans a better opportunity to attend either or both events.

The event is still a moving target due to the uncertainty of Covid-19 and procedures for professional sporting hubs around the country. The PGA of Australia announced that although the February 2021 dates are guaranteed if all goes to plan with Covid-19 cases easing in Australia, the “new date will be reviewed again in early December… at that time we will determine whether the event will proceed in February or, as a last resort, cancelled.”
