Located in the heart of the Portugal’s Algarve region, in a suburb named Vilamoura, resides Dom Pedro Golf’s Laguna golf course. Originally a 27-hole layout consisting of three 9-hole loops named North, East and South, the course gave 9 holes to its sibling the Millennium course so that each of the 5 layouts at Dom Pedro Golf in Vilamoura consist of 18-holes. Considerably easier than its contemporaries, the course features a lot of water, hence the name, but it can provide a real challenge if consistent precision isn’t your greatest asset. The other golf courses at Dom Pedro Resort are The Victoria Course, The Old, Millennium and Pinhal golf courses.
Bountiful water hazards and umbrella pine trees comprise the greatest challenge for Dom Pedro Golf’s Laguna golf course in Vilamoura. It is more of a family course where everyone can enjoy it, though each hole is memorable, and it is a course that should be experienced if you are in the area and have the time. Set out over low-lying terrain, the course was designed by the late American golf course architect Joseph Lee. Offering a wide variety of playing conditions due to the variations in sea-breeze that can affect play, the course plays like a Florida resort-style course mixed with parkland.
It opened in 1990 and has since provided golfers with consistent enjoyment throughout its three decades of life. Strategically placed bunkers and water features that shape the course provide a real challenge if you can’t control your shots. The par-72 layout is a modern length of 6,694 yards and 6,121 metres, providing a laid-back aspect to your golf holiday that is best mixed as an afternoon round after a morning round at one of the other Dom Pedro Golf Courses in Vilamoura.
A fantastic clubhouse resides at the Laguna golf course with stunning panoramic views over the course and surrounding scenery. It shares the clubhouse with the neighbouring Millennium golf course, so there are always plenty of people about, but it is not as busy as The Old Course’s clubhouse down the road. A quaint restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner is located within the clubhouse along with changing facilities, a well-stocked pro shop and bathroom facilities. Practice facilities at Dom Pedro’s Laguna golf course consist of a driving range to practice your full swing, as well as a practice putting green and adjacent chipping area.
