Homepage / Listings / North America / USA / Oregon / Pumpkin Ridge Witch Hollow Golf Course
Situated on pristine farmland are two of the area’s best golf courses. Only 20 miles west of Portland are two championship golf courses. Both were etched into the landscape by renowned golf course architect Bob Cupp. Lush stands of towering trees frame undulating fairways and manicured greens, creating a stunning tapestry for respite, relaxation, and adventure. Both golf courses lend themselves to walking, allowing players to enjoy the golf courses the way they were meant to be played. The legends of Ghost Creek and Witch Hollow are as mysterious and elusive as the spectacular courses that bear their names.
Envisioning a beautiful golf haven reminiscent of Scotland & Great Britain’s great traditional golf courses, Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club’s founding owners Marvin French, Gaylord Davis, and Barney Hyde sought the financial support of Japanese businessman Shigeru Ito & his daughter Kumiko Rodewald. Together, these private club pioneers overcame significant obstacles to build what are considered two of the best golf course layouts in the country, each a masterpiece in its own right. Bob Cupp designed both courses which opened in 1992 to national acclaim. Pumpkin Ridge is located about 45 minutes west of downtown Portland.
Considered among the nation’s best classic-style courses, Bob Cupp designed the par-72, 7,017-yard Witch Hollow course to blend harmoniously with its natural surroundings in the shadows of the Cascade Mountains. Woven through a tapestry of fir, maple, oak and ash trees with dramatic views of the Tualatin Hills, the course’s undulating fairways, wide manicured greens, numerous wetland areas and variety of ponds, lakes and streams add to the layout’s mystical allure and beauty.
Witch Hollow was named by Golf Digest the “#2 Best New Private Course in the U.S.” when it opened in 1992 and continues to garner national acclaim thanks to its imaginative design and superb conditioning. In 1996, Tiger Woods brought notoriety to Witch Hollow when he won his unprecedented third consecutive U.S. Amateur Championship in a dramatic come-from-behind finish over Steve Scott.
Reminiscent of a luxurious country estate, the clubhouse at Witch Hollow exudes timeless elegance. Members enjoy a myriad of upscale amenities, including beautifully-appointed men’s and women’s locker rooms.
