The Bandon Dunes Golf Resort’s Bandon Trails course is an 18-hole masterpiece designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, who recently completed the Sheep Ranch golf course at the Resort. Set back from the Pacific Ocean and therefore contrasting from its siblings The Bandon Dunes and Pacific Dunes Courses, the Trails Course winds its way through rolling hills and undulating terrain topped with natural foliage and bushland. The course opened in 2005 and is a great break from Bandon links tradition; it is well worth a round.

Golf Course Information

When Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw began working in the sand to uncover the third course, they faced the challenge of following Bandon Dunes and Pacific Dunes. Opened in 2005, Bandon Trails begins atop a massive sand dune, then quickly opens into a sprawling meadow. The routing then works higher into the coastal forest, before finally returning to finish in the dunes. The course is enjoyable to walk and is a constant reminder of how the game was originally created among inland rolling dunes with dramatic ocean vistas.

Due to the nature of the dense surrounding forest and links-style golf course, Bandon Trails requires thoughtful approaches and well-placed shots. Bump-and-run is the ideal style of approach when nearing the greens because of the many bunkers fortifying the pin. If you can hit it where you want, distance will not be an issue, but again, accuracy is key at Bandon Trails. The only reason Bandon Trail is the lowest rated among the four main Bandon Golf Courses is because it lacks the seaside vistas privy to Pacific Dunes, Old MacDonald and Bandon Dunes, but it merely adds a complexity to the links layout that is not lost on golfers who play here. Trails is such a well-designed course that players genuinely extend their stay to play it again; as they say, there is more than one way to hit a golf ball.

“Bandon Trails… takes its rightful place on the short list of pilgrimages all golfers must make before they die – because odds are golf in Heaven can’t compare.”    – GOLF Magazine

The Punchbowl

The newest addition to the Bandon Dunes family, The Punchbowl is a 100,000-square-foot putting course designed by Tom Doak, with Jim Urbina. No tee-times are required, all you need to do is show up and put your golf ball in the queue; it is open by 14.00 & closes at dusk, night use is prohibited. It s also complimentary for resort guests. It features 18 holes’ lengths differ from day to day, some are short, and some are long. The area is a collection of natural hollows. Punchbowl is a longstanding design concept by golf architects. The 18th hole at Old Macdonald shares the same principles and is aptly named “Punchbowl.”
