Homepage / Listings / North America / USA / Oregon / Bandon Dunes Sheep Ranch Course
Bordering the Pacific Ocean, the Bandon Dunes Sheep Ranch golf course is the newest addition to the prestigious Resort’s arsenal. Sheep Ranch the fifth golf course at Bandon Dunes; designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, the course sits north of the Old Macdonald golf course. Tom Doak laid the initial land for the track past the turn of the century, it was only until after 2000 and more recently when the Sheep Ranch golf course became a tangible object separate from the dreams inside the head of Mike Keiser, owner of Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. The Sheep Ranch opened for play to the public in June 2020 to high expectations, despite worldwide Covid-19 woes.
The par-72 golf course that comprises Bandon Dunes Sheep Ranch lies perched along the Pacific Ocean with nine greens perched atop a towering cliff that is reminiscent of Canada’s Cabot Cliffs oceanside position. The natural contours that comprise the links reflect fantastic natural topography that, from above, reflects Scotland’s Kingsbarns golf course with sporadic hillocks and greenside knolls. The 18-hole route is spectacular if anything, with multiple greens sharing the same complex and coastline, views both north and south, the Sheep Ranch comes as highly anticipated in the golfing world.
The Sheep Ranch golf course follows links tradition with its holes exposed to the wind; low-flying golf shots are recommended. Grassy knolls and natural land depressions create all the bumps needed with a noticeable lack of bunkers. The coastal holes follow a haggard ridge-line with inlets, ridges and long carries that add to the excitement of The Sheep Ranch. The new golf course is an excellent addition to Bandon Dunes as the Resort continues to dominate the U.S. Pacific Coastline’s golf scene.
Practice Centre
Occupying almost 50 acres of land, the Bandon Dunes practice centre was created for the enjoyment of golf. The practice centre consists of two full driving ranges, one hitting north and the other south. A one-acre putting green provides an enormous practice area to focus on your green golf, while two short-game pitching areas for chipping, bunkers and bump-and-run shots are available. The Practice Centre also has its own little clubhouse serving complimentary coffee and tea. Golfers can acquire a day pass for USD 10 in any golf shop.
Shorty’s Par-3 Course
The 9-hole practice par-three golf course name Shorty’s was designed by David McLay Kidd. The golf course is open four afternoons per week from Thursday to Sunday after 14.00. The golf course is complimentary to Resort guests, although an ‘Honor’ box for donations is located in the Practice Centre clubhouse. Shorty’s is a great place to settle scores and rivalries after your round at any Bandon Dunes golf course.
The Punchbowl
The Punchbowl is a 100,000 square-foot putting course designed by renowned golf architect Tom Doak, who also recently developed Australia’s new Gunnamatta Golf Course at The National Golf Club. The Punchbowl does not require prior booking, although a queue is formed with golf balls in a line. IT is located adjacent to the first tee at Pacific Dunes, and occupies 2.3 acres of land. The Punchbowl putting course is comprised of a series of undulations that offers insurmountable fun; we recommend settling scores at The Punchbowl after an 18-hole round at any Bandon golf course.
Bandon Resort
The Bandon Dunes Golf Resort is Oregon’s premier golf destination with five golf courses, numerous restaurants and accommodations. There are five types of lodging at Bandon Dunes Resort, from modest rooms in the woods to private houses next to ponds, there is something for everyone at Bandon Dunes Resort.
