Situated in the cultural home of New Zealand where the historical Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840, the Waitangi Golf Club was established just over 100 years later in 1947. A fantastic seaside parkland golf course, Waitangi provides a truly relaxing round of golf in one of New Zealand’s most relaxing areas, the Bay of Islands, just a wayward tee shot from where the famous treaty was signed. A round of golf at Waitangi complements any Bay of Islands golf package; we recommend stopping off to explore the Waitangi region after your round. The Waitangi Golf Club is not far from The Bay of Islands Golf Course and the famous Kauri Cliffs.
With a par of 70 and length of just over 5.5 kilometres, the Waitangi golf course is quite short. This is due to the seaside nature of the golf course with many holes straddling the coastline. What it lacks in length, it makes up for with Bay of Islands panoramas from every hole. The opening nine follows a traditional inland parkland layout with tree-lined fairways often playing parallel. The second nine introduces sweeping ocean views and holes that incorporate the coast from tee to green.
It is the final stretch of holes which makes Waitangi memorable for years to come, with bright blue water on one side and rich green fairways on the other, you will be hard-pressed to find better value for money than Waitangi’s closing stretch of golf holes. Well-groomed fairways are complemented by native trees that flower from spring to autumn. Enjoy expansive views over Russell and the nearby estuary vistas over Waitangi and Opua with rolling forests heading inland over Mount Bledisloe and Puketona.
Waitangi Golf Club has a clubhouse built as a long rectangle with glass panelling around three sides that offer beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The Pro Shop is every golfer’s main point of contact on arrival where you can purchase top-of-the-range equipment and apparel or hire clubs, carts or shoes for your round. Practice facilities at Waitangi Golf Club are limited to a putting green and short-game pitching area. It also has a short driving range from grass.
