Homepage / Listings / Australia and Pacific / New Zealand / North Island / Taupo Golf Club
Taupo Golf Club is situated right on the edge of the inland township, just minutes from the famous Lake Taupo. The club has been using the site since 1931 and is home to two golf courses named ‘Centennial’ and ‘Tauhara,’ comprising 36 holes of golf. Play is open year-round, and modern facilities round out the experience at Taupo Golf Club. The Centennial course at Taupo Golf Club is played as an inland links golf course with fescue rough. The Tauhara course is a traditional parkland golf course that is shorter and easier to play. Both golf courses at Taupo Golf Club have picturesque mountain backdrops and add great worth to any Taupo golf package. We recommend including Taupo Golf Club in any package that features The Kinloch Club and Wairakei golf courses.
Centennial Course
Presenting a greater challenge than its sibling, Taupo Golf Club’s Centennial course plays like an inland links golf course, but there are trees dotted throughout the 18-hole route. The course features doglegs, fairway and greenside bunkers, fescue rough and wastelands between tees and fairways. The Centennial course is classified as parkland due to its treelined fairways and bunker shapes, although the fescue rough and numerous wastelands add a links-like feel to it. Of the two courses at Taupo, the Centennial golf course is longer and more challenging. It has hosted the New Zealand Amateur in 1986 and 2004.
Tauhara Course
Both shorter than its neighbour and easier to play, the Tauhara golf course at Taupo golf club has a classic parkland layout. Challenges come in the form of wastelands and rough cuts along fairways, as well as greenside bunkers. Most holes run straight, although a few par fives and par fours have doglegs. The Tauhara course is easy to walk, providing a quick round of 18 for those wanting a warm-up before other courses in the area like Wairakei or The Kinloch Club.
Taupo golf club has a grass driving range open daily so you can practice every kind of shot. A putting green is also near the clubhouse so golfers can warm up before their round. The clubhouse at Taupo Golf Club has a restaurant that is open for breakfast and lunch daily. The Pro Shop is stocked with the essentials and some fun trinkets representing the Taupo brand.
