Pinehurst No. 8 Golf Course

Pinehurst, North Carolina

About

Location

Discover

The No. 8 course at Pinehurst Golf Resort was created to celebrate 100 years. Tom Fazio spearheaded the task, and it opened in 1996, combining classic Donald Ross course design characteristics like those seen on Pinehurst No. 2, with domed greens and enthralling risk and reward opportunities. The No. 8 course has twice hosted the PGA Club Pro Championship. A complimentary shuttle is provided from all Resort hotels to the Pinehurst No. 8 golf course. Pinehurst No. 8 is a spectacular course that combines scenery, challenging golf and a pleasant day into one experience. Another notable course is Pinehurst No. 4, which we recommend you play when visiting the North Carolina Resort.

Golf Course Information

Set on natural rolling terrain, the No. 8 course utilises a combination of features seen on the No.2 course with the addition of natural wetlands and holes shaped with more of a manicure than the unkempt wildness that comprises No.2. Widely regarded as the most picturesque of all Pinehurst’s golf courses, No. 8’s rolling terrain and natural elevation changes enable golfers to see the landscape from a different angle and open up the region’s beauty throughout the 18-hole route. Dense forests line the fairways and relatively accurate tee-shots are demanded to keep a happy scorecard.

The bunkers of No. 8 are not as severe as No. 2 or No. 4, but the inclusion of water hazards on four of the eighteen holes makes up for the challenge. Wasteland bunkers still exist on many fairways which draws influence directly from No. 2, and water hazards shape some of the greens to appear resort-like, as if Arnold Palmer designed them. Golfers of all abilities will thoroughly enjoy No. 8; though it is difficult, the shape of the holes with the natural landscape makes every hole memorable.

Donald Ross is credited with inventing the driving range, so it is without surprise that Pinehurst should have one of the best practice facilities in America A full-length driving range with over 50 bays, along with multiple putting greens, chipping areas and practice bunkers are all on display for golfers to utilise when at Pinehurst Resort.

Pinehurst Clubhouse

A spacious veranda overlooking the eighteenth green, Pinehurst No. 8’s clubhouse is the ideal place for casual dining or relaxing in a rocking chair with a drink after a memorable round. Plantation arches enclose the large veranda, with scenic views over the 18th hole and lush surrounds. The dining room is open daily from 11:00 to 16:00, offering a deli-style menu generous portions. These dishes include sandwiches, wraps, burgers, nachos, craft and premium beer, wine and desserts.

Golf Academy

One of the finest in America, Pinehurst Golf Academy with a low 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio means that you will receive plenty of personal attention. The instructors are led by Eric Alpenfels, a PGA Master Professional whose research into training techniques has been published a number of times in Golf Magazine. The tuition programs are designed for both avid golfers and those new to the game. The editors of Golf Digest labelled Pinehurst Golf Academy as one of the best in America.
