Te Arai Links

North Island, NZ
Te Arai Links Logo

Located just over one hour north of New Zealand’s capital Auckland on the North Island is Te Arai Links. Consisting of two golf courses, the first golf course opened in 2022 and is named The South Course. Completing the 36-hole facility is The North Course by the same design company Coore and Crenshaw; it is expected to open in 2023. Whilst the complex features 54 holes of golf, play on the neighbouring Tara Iti is restricted to members of their extremely private club, so visitors to Te Arai Links will only have access to 36 holes of golf on the North and South Courses. Voyages.golf does not feature golf courses if you cannot play them; this listing is for Te Arai Links as a stay-and-play resort. Golfers cannot play Te Arai Links without being a guest at the resort. Golf Course Information

    The South Course

Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, Te Arai’s South Course is pure links golf situated next to the Pacific Ocean. Build on exposed seaside land comprised of sand dunes, pine trees and fast fescue turf, The South Course features encapsulating beauty. The golfing experience is even better. Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw are world-renowned golf architects who designed Barnbougle’s Lost Farm in Tasmania, Streamsong Red in Florida, the Sheep Ranch at Bandon Dunes and Sand Valley in Wisconsin.

Te Arai’s South Course embodies minimalism in design and thought. The golf holes are shaped by sand ridges and meandering valleys on which they are built. Sixteen of eighteen holes have ocean views and no less than eight holes border the sea. Think of an exposed links golf course in a visually stunning location, then add some modern flair and you will have a taste of Te Arai’s South Course which opened in 2022.

    The North Course

Construction began in 2022 for Te Arai’s second 18-hole golf course. Designed by Tom Doak, The North is expected to open in 2023. Doak has designed some of the world’s top courses including neighbouring Tara Iti, Bandon Dunes’ Pacific Dunes, Barnbougle Dunes and Cape Kidnappers near Hawke’s Bay. The North Course will begin and finish near the ocean but feature an inland stretch that utilises natural landforms including large cliffs, cavernous natural bunkers and towering pine trees.

    Accommodation

    Suites

Offering unspoilt views over The South Course, The Suites at Te Arai Links are luxurious in design with 45m2 (484sf) of space. Located just a short walk from the South Clubhouse, Pizza Barn and practice facilities, the Suites are located in the heart of the property. Te Arai’s Suites were architecturally designed by Studio John Irving and interior design by Jenni Kayne. The well-proportioned rooms come in two layouts: one king-sized bed or two queen beds. With a soft, earthy colour palette, the Suites at Te Arai were designed to blend into the landscape and offer contemporary luxury with Pacific Ocean views.

    The Cottages

The Cottages at Te Arai face North East and perfectly capture the morning light. Modelled on the much-loved Member Cottages of Tara Iti Golf Club, the two-bedroom Cottages are situated on the edge of The South Course. The Cottages utilise a colour palette that draws on nature and works seamlessly with the environment. The Cottages feature commanding views over the Pacific Ocean and surrounding landscape. They are 140 m2 (1507sf) plus a patio of 40m2 (430sf), meaning there is plenty of space to relax. The two-bedroom Cottages have two bathrooms, capable of sleeping up to four people.

    The Villas

Situated on the 18th fairway of the North Course at Te Arai Links are The Villas. The 4-bedroom Villas command views over the Pacific Ocean, Little Barrier and Mokohinau Islands. Featuring horizontal weathered timber boards, sarked timber ceilings, concrete and stone, The Villas represent a harmonious blend of synergy between luxury accommodation and rugged coastline which is represented on Te Arai’s golf courses. The Villas can sleep eight people, with four bedrooms and four bathrooms. Amenities include a full kitchen, indoor fireplace, generous living spaces, external firepit, and ample outdoor living spaces.
