Ideally placed in the heart of a cork oak forest and designed by Robert Trent Jones, the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam is a wonder of its kind: technicality, quality of the courses, a landscape of incomparable beauty. The domain is spread over 440 hectares of trees, flowers, water and has courses appreciated by real experts. The golfers and the art lovers will undeniably find in this place the magic of one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world – only fifteen minutes away from the centre of Rabat, capital of the Kingdom of Morocco. Alternatively, a stay at L’Amphitrite Palace is the best way to experience this golf club, and all the 8 others in the vicinity.
Red Course
A very technical course which obliges one to think and plan each swing with exactitude, to the great joy of strategists who find an adversary of size there! Its hole number 9 is famous worldwide: a large lake with the green at its centre and 172 meters to be played entirely over water or, even better, on the top of the water lilies! The signature hole on the property is undoubtedly the par three 9th, where the tee shot has to carry a lily pond, complete with wading flamingos, to a shallow island green surrounded by flowers and trees. The Red course hosted the Moroccan Open in 2001 where Ian Poulter claimed his second European tour victory with 15 under par.
Blue Course
Entertaining and varied, the Blue Course hides its greens behind dog-legs and fairway turns. The layout of the Blue Course drawn by the Trent Jones is not a place for improvisation! If the Red Course is particularly long, the Blue course can turn into a long run as well. Par eleven is a par 4 for 405 meters, as captivating in its beauty as it is in its difficulty. Trees and brambles narrow the fairway flanked by a lake with two large mimosa trees which will not stop the ball, obviously intended to finish in water! The tree-lined fairways of the Blue course definitely captivate the eyes, but, despite being overshadowed by the Red course, remains an extraordinary feat that was crafted by one of the finest golf-course architects ever – Robert Trent Jones Sr.
The club is owned by Morocco’s King. One can therefore expect fine food at the restaurant, caddies & golf equipment to rent, and of course lockers. In addition to a golfing facility’s necessities, Royal Golf Dar Es Salam has an outdoor pool! Why not take a splash after your round? The driving range, along with pitching area and putting green are all situated around the club house, making this one of Africa’s finest golf complexes.
