Located near the sea in County Sligo, Ireland, Enniscrone Golf Club was founded in 1918, redesigned by Eddie Hackett in 1974 and again by Donald Steel in 2001. A classic seaside links golf course is of championship quality, being one of Ireland’s most authentic golf courses. Set amongst picturesque rolling foothills with some of the largest sand dunes seen in Ireland, the club lies on a tranquil promontory with one of he most beautiful settings in the country. A round of golf is a must at Enniscrone; you will find your vacation relatively fulfilled after a round on the championship links course and a pint of Guinness in the clubhouse. Nearby golf destinations include Galway Bay Golf Resort and Lough Erne Resort. as the Enniscrone Golf Club is situated on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, it is best to rent a vehicle and drive the West Coast, playing golf at destinations including Donegal golf Club, Castle Dargan and Carne Golf Links along the way.

Golf Course Information

Traditional Irish seaside links golf courses use the natural terrain to their advantage, with prevailing sea breezes wreaking havoc if your ball flies above the height of the sand dunes. The ideal golf game is played low at Enniscrone, with bump and runs, pin-point precision and a ball kept in play being the three key pillars of a happy scorecard. With the scenery second to none, no fewer than twelve of the eighteen holes wine vivaciously through towering sand dunes and bearded knolls, with heavy undulations in fairways and greens making for a tough round.

Despite the course’s tough nature, the scenery and constant reminder that you are playing on hallowed ground, revered through the last century as one of the best Irish links courses, is enough to have you in good spirits the whole way around. The layout of the course favours natural contours erected by mother nature throughout millennia. The natural layout of the land and minimal impact on its environment means that golfers who visit Enniscrone will be able to savour the pleasure for many years to come. A sea of green will meet you as you walk onto the first tee, with the rich green fairways and greens, combined with a lighter, wilder green that carpets the surrounding sand dunes, it is a constant reminder that you are playing golf on the Emerald Isle and it should not be left out of your golf vacation, especially because it is a cheaper course than the likes of Royal Portrush and Royal County Down.

Venue Information

The clubhouse at Enniscrone welcomes everybody, and that is shown by the array of national flags in the car park flanking the course. You can enjoy refreshments before or after your round at the clubhouse restaurant with breakfast, lunch and dinner options seven days a week. The restaurant has a surprisingly wide range of food made with local ingredients that must not be missed during your visit.

The Pro Shop is located in the clubhouse and comes well-stocked with all the essentials for your round, plus Enniscrone-branded apparel and accessories for you to take home as a souvenir. The practice facilities consist of a short game area and putting green. As with many Irish links golf clubs, driving ranges are redundant because big shots are not a key part of the game in Irish links golf.
