On Ireland’s far west coast, 27 holes of Championship Links Golf reside by the sea. Connemara Golf Club is nestled between The Atlantic Ocean on the west, and Twelve Bens mountain range on the east. The isolated golf complex was designed by the great Eddie Hackett, one of Ireland’s top golf architects; it opened for play in 1973, as golf experienced a renaissance in Ireland. The original 18-holes was expanded by Eddie Hackett and Tom Craddock in 2000 with an extra nine holes, giving visiting golfers a great opportunity to warm up on a nine before playing the original 18. Connemara Golf Course is County Galway’s highest-rated golf course and must be experienced when visiting Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Nearby golf courses include Galway Bay Golf Resort, Enniscrone Golf Club and Carne Golf Links.
Connemara Golf Links is one of Ireland’s true links golf courses. The landscape that surrounds it is rugged with rock, coarse grass and windswept hills. The Atlantic Ocean roars on many days of the year, whipping the wind into a frenzy. The isolated setting, on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way and far from any major city, gives Connemara Links its unique setting with fantastic views throughout each of the complex’s 27 golf holes. The rugged landscape is reflected in the challenges presented on the golf course: avoid the rocks and rough as best you can.
The golf course is littered with memorable holes, most notably on the back nine of the original 18. A round at Connemara won’t set you back as harshly as other great Irish golf courses, so its value is worth the drive. The exposed geography of the golf course on a narrow peninsula in the west of Ireland has enabled the elements to batter the landscape into a thing of rugged beauty. The course plays long from the back tees (over 7,200 yards), and if the wind is up, your scorecard will be looking grim. Connemara Golf Club poses an exhilarating round of golf and is a championship links golf course worthy of a visit.
Practice Facilities
Connemara has a range of practise facilities including a driving range, putting green and short-game pitching and chipping area. Additionally, the nine-hole golf course is a fantastic way to warm up before your 18-hole round. It has a par of 35 and length of 3,145-yards / 2,875 metres. We recommend you play all 27 holes during your visit to Connemara.
Clubhouse
The Clubhouse at Connemara Golf Club is a very modern building. Inside you will find the complete suite of services including lockers with showers, a well-stocked Pro Shop with Connemara-branded merchandise and knowledgeable staff, and a restaurant with bar. The restaurant and bar serves fantastic local Irish cuisine and features sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. It is open for breakfast lunch and dinner with a full a-la-carte menu.
