Kohala Coast, Hawaii

About

Discover

Home to two championship golf courses, Waikoloa is situated on the southern end of the Kohala Coast, on the Western side of the Big Island of Hawaii. The Beach Course as designed by Robert Trent Jones Junior with a par of 70, whilst the Kings’ Course was designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, with a par of 72. Set on ancient lava flows, the lush green golf course contrasts with the unkempt ruggedness of the black-rock coastline and azure waters of the Pacific Ocean. With 36 holes of golf, and a full suite of golf facilities, Waikoloa is Big Islands’ premier golf holiday destinations. The nearby Mauna Kea Golf Course makes the Big Island worthy of a golf trip; we recommend you stay at the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort which has its own 18-hole golf course.

Golf Course Information

The Beach Course at Waikoloa opened in 1981 after Robert Trent Jones Junior designed the beachside resort-style course. It characterises Big Island golf at its finest. It is not a particularly long course, but being a Trent-Jones design, golfers will appreciate the value of accuracy on its routing, whilst average golfers will be inspired by its beauty if not by their scorecards. There are a range of tee options for men and women, which opens the course to a range of golfing abilities.

As you reach the seventh tee, you will be struck by the suddenness of the Pacific Ocean, with died volcanic lava the only demarcation between golf course and ocean. Making full use of the prevailing winds on the seaside Beach course, Trent Jones designed the seaside holes so that good golfers will go for it with low, long shots, while average golfers will be forced to lay up. A round at that Waikoloa beach golf course will bring memories; be sure to take a camera.
