Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian mountain range lies the 36-hole golf estate Silver Lakes, a highlight of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama. The four nine-hole courses are Backbreaker, Heartbreaker, Mindbreaker and The Short Course. The Short Course is a nine-hole par-3 course, whilst the other three feature full-length holes. While the most common combination for an 18-hole round is to play the Backbreaker and Heartbreaker, the availability of Mindbreaker allows for multiple 18-hole routes that enables golfers to get a different experience at Silver Lakes every time you play. Other golf courses along the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trai include Lakewood Point Clear, Capitol Hill, and Grand National Links at Marriott Opelika Resort. The best way to experience the RTJGT is to rent a vehicle and drive through the Southern States.
Backbreaker
The Backbreaker course at Silver Lakes is a 9-hole course measuring 3,198 Yards / 2,924 Metres (Orange Tees). It has a par of 36 and its layout consists of wide fairways favouring bigger hitters. The real challenge to the scorecard lies on the greens due to them having multiple tiers and odd shapes, often with numerous bunkers or water hazards surrounding. A very scenic course, the Backbreaker at Silver Lakes has undulating fairways that meander through quaint Alabaman countryside, despite its name.
Heartbreaker
The Heartbreaker course at Silver Lakes has a par of 36 and features 9-holes of elevation changes, undulating fairways and open holes. It measures 3,335 Yards / 3,050 Metres (Orange tees), which makes it the longest course at Silver Lakes. Despite its name, the Heartbreaker Course not as hard as the Backbreaker, though you must be prepared to hit from different heights than your ball as there are many dips and crags on the course, so carrying the golf ball to the green on each hole is a must.
Mindbreaker
The Mindbreaker Course at Silver Lakes is 9-holes and has a par of 36. Measuring 3,199 Yards and 2,925 Metres, the Mindbreaker course blends shorter holes with harder layouts with each hole. Woodland, wetlands and water feature consistently throughout the course and elevation changes from tees to greens that wreak havoc for those who can’t carry the ball. It is a fantastic short course that demands a high degree of precision and offers a tranquil mix of stunning surrounds.
There is a driving range to warm up prior to your golf round. A putting green and short-game area resides next to the clubhouse and are all you need to utilize before your round. The clubhouse at Silver Lakes resides in the center of the golf complex, whilst the four courses span all around. Inside the clubhouse is a restaurant serving American cuisine, a well-stocked pro shop, and lockers for visiting golfers.
