Established in 1896, the Napier Golf Club is the oldest in the greater Hawke’s Bay region, just minutes away from Hastings Golf Club. Situated on the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island, the Napier golf course hosted the first New Zealand Open in 1907 and has enjoyed a long history in the country’s golf scene. The semi-private golf club welcomes visitors, and getting a green fee is not difficult. Golf carts are not allowed on the Napier golf course unless you have a medical condition with an appropriate certificate. Napier Golf Club is just a 10-minute drive from the local airport and a great addition to any Hawke’s Bay or Cape Kidnappers golf holiday.
Napier golf course is laid out over relatively flat terrain. The course is a traditional parkland layout with tree-lined fairways and many greenside bunkers. It is easy to walk with a pull-trolley or electric trolley. The course, located near Waiohiki in Napier Bay, is one of the best in the Napier region. The course is laid-out with challenging par-fours that offer doglegs and greens that are deceptively protected by runoffs, greenside roughs and bunkers.
The 18-hole route at Napier Golf Club is a fun challenge for amateurs and low-handicappers alike. The wind is luckily not much of a challenge, as the course lies near a river at a low-point in Hawke’s Bay, set about a kilometre back from the ocean. A pleasant parkland course, Napier combines traditional Maori heritage with the game of golf, notably producing some key Maori golfers such as Kurupo Tareha and his son Kapi in the early 1900s. Napier golf club is a fantastic way to round out your Cape Kidnappers experience by warming up fresh of the plane or getting even after your Kidnappers golf package.
Golf Practice Facilities
Napier has fantastic practice golf facilities that consist of a main putting green in front of the clubhouse, a chipping green to the rear of the clubhouse, a driving range adjacent to the first fairway, and driving nets behind the first tee. A practice bunker and chipping green is located next to the tenth fairway, plus a six-hole mini-course is available for you to practise on. The practice facilities provide you with ample space to practice your swing before and after your round.
Pro Shop & Clubhouse
The pro shop at Napier Golf Club is located in the main clubhouse and is run by head professional Andrew Henare. Inside you will find a well-stocked range of essential golf apparel, merchandise and equipment, plus some Napier-logoed accessories. The clubhouse restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch, so be sure to stop by before your round for a coffee or after for a hearty meal or cold beer.
