Created by golfing legend Colin Montgomerie, Montgomerie Links Golf Course is truly an international 5-star championship links style course that tees up challenging and enjoyable play for all levels of golfers from around the world. It is widely regarded as one of the most elite courses in Asia and Vietnam. It gives golfers the pleasure of playing the classic Irish and Scottish links courses with the tropical weather of Vietnam: the best of both worlds! The Montgomerie Links golf complex is located in the heart of Da Nang, Vietnam’s Golf Coast. Nearby attractions include BRG Da Nang, Ba Na Hills, Hoiana Shores and Laguna Lang Co.
The traditional links-style design features sandy soil, wind-blown dunes, existing native vegetation, strategically placed bunkers, generous and undulating greens and closely-mown chipping areas. The course also hosts more water holes than most links courses, including lakes and streams that add further aesthetic appeal. The 2012 Forbes Travel Guide rated Montgomerie Links as one of Asia’s ten most elite courses. It has been designed to capitalise on its close proximity to the warm, tranquil East Sea and famed Marble Mountains, which are clearly visible from various points on the 18-hole course.
Colin Montgomerie has implemented classic, old-world design elements into the Danang golf course, such as rolling, treeless fairways, thick rough, massive greens and tight chipping areas that draws direct influence from Royal Troon in Scotland. Among the memorable holes are 7 and 13, a pair of par-4’s with some of the deepest bunkers on the course. The only departure from tradition comes in the form of several lakes and streams, a must when considering the region’s seasonably high-water table. The course caters to players of all abilities as holes routed through an incredibly natural formation of dunes, heartlands and seaside vegetation.
As befitting someone of Colin’s calibre, the course is extremely well-managed and ensures immaculate attention to detail both on the fairways, greens and off the course. Although the course doesn’t officially have a signature hole, the stunning par-5 12th is truly memorable. Playing slightly uphill to a bunker-riddled fairway, the hole is framed by the clubhouse in the background and has been described as the best par-5 in Vietnam.
Honoured with prestigious awards through the years, the professionally maintained facility offers golfers a full-service experience, including chipping and putting greens that mirror the exact condition of the course and a 30-bay undercover driving range. It also has a PGA Golf Academy and instructors for those requiring aid with their golf swing.
