The Ladybank Golf Club is one of the premier courses of the Kingdom of Fife and has also been on The Open Championship qualifying trail since 1978, which was played in that year at St Andrews. For lovers of the game away from the sea, Ladybank Golf Club provides a classic heathland test and enjoys a reputation as one of the finest inland layouts in Scotland. Nearby golf courses include Dumbarnie Links, St Andrews Links Old Course, Kingsbarns and Crail’s Craighead Course. Nearby accommodation for Ladybank includes Hawkswood Country Estate, the Fairmont St Andrews and the Old Course Hotel.
National Club Golfer Magazine said:
“Designed by Old Tom Morris, Ladybank is a rare beast in Fife – a tremendous inland course. It measures just over 6,600 from the medal tees, making great use of its heath-land terrain. It has changed a little over the years, requiring the golfer to display real precision to hit the small and often contoured greens.
“There are a few dog-legs between the trees where care is needed not to get blocked out. Never easy but always fun. Of its type, one of the finest courses in the land for my money. The experience here is always a vibrant one. Standing on the 1st tee, you know you are in for a treat.”
A heathland golf course of Championship status (par 71), Ladybank is set amongst heather, pine trees and silver birch. The Championship course (6,754 yards) has two loops of nine holes, but visitors generally use the blue course that measures 6,299 yards. The course definition may have changed dramatically in the intervening one hundred years, but its character remains intact. If you stray offline, expect to be punished for your sins. The course is relatively flat, so it’s not a difficult one to walk, but the trees, heather and greenside bunkers punish careless hitters with maximum force. The record set by a professional is only 65, which testifies to its subtle challenges.
The drive at the dogleg 3rd and 9th holes require extreme care, as do the 15th and 16th on the back nine. The greens are compact, and your approach shot requires precision to find the putting surface. The fairways are predominantly flat leaving you invigorated from the exercise with a surfeit of energy to meet the excesses of the 19th hole.
The course has hosted The Scottish Open Amateur Senior Championships in 1998, The British Boys in 1998, the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship in 2001 and the final qualifying for The Open Championship in 1978, 1984, 11990, 1995, 2000 and 2005.

There are also knowledgable golf professionals in the Pro Shop to assist you with any questions you may have. The shop features the essentials range of apparel, equipment and accessories with Ladybank’s personal logoed merchandise.
