The second instalment of Dom Pedro’s 5 golf courses, the Pinhal Course, opened in 1976 and graces its presence today both by Frank Pennink’s original design and that of Robert Trent Jones Jr’s refinements in 1985. An overly attractive golf course, the Pinhal course has since had more refinements by Martin Hawtree, who redesigned the 5th, 12th, 15th and 16th holes. A favourite of many visitors, the Pinhal Course is a must-play golf course on your Algarve golf holiday. The other Dom Pedro Resort golf courses are the Old Course, Victoria, Laguna and Millennium. We recommend either staying at the Dom Pedro Resort, or the nearby Anantara Resort during your Algarve golf break.
Set on relatively flat to naturally undulating terrain, the Pinhal course demands pinpoint accuracy due to the presence of many pine trees. Relatively small greens are protected by strategically placed bunkers, and subtle slopes around the greens will have your ball going the direction you don’t want it to if you don’t hit it just right. You must be able to hit it straight or at least to control the distance otherwise getting back onto fairways amongst heavily treed fairways will have your ball bouncing off bark and likely coming back at you.
The course has a par of 72 and is a relatively long layout at almost 7,000 yards and 6,535 metres. The Umbrella and Atlantic pines are definitely the most significant challenge to your game, though if you are a straight hitter and can keep your ball in the fairway, your scorecard should give you a smile after your round.
The clubhouse at the Dom Pedro Pinhal Course offers one of the most fantastic panoramas’ in the Algarve golf scene. It extends over the driving range, so you can have endless entertainment as you enjoy a refreshment after your round, whilst the pro shop is stocked with all the necessary accessories, apparel and equipment to boost your golf game. There is a restaurant within the clubhouse provides a wide range of options from fish, meat dishes, salads, snacks and sandwiches. Practice facilities consist of a full-length driving range, putting green and short-game pitching area.
