Offering three championship golf courses, Capitol Hill extends to over 1500-acres and opened in 1999. The first two courses, the Senator and Legislator opened at the same time, but the latest course opened a year after, named the Judge, and is widely considered one of the best public courses in America. The Senator course was named among the Top 10 New Courses in America by Golf Magazine, and for a relatively new golf complex, that means a lot. The complex is just 13-miles north of Alabama’s state capital in Montgomery. The Capitol Hill golf course sits among a string of courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, and what is known as the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Other courses among the trail include Lakewood, Silver Lakes and Grand National. We recommend renting vehicle to get the most out of your Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail vacation.
Set on the banks of the Alabama River, the Judge Course at Capitol Hill has fourteen of its eighteen holes adjoining the water. The first hole is amazing in that it has 200 feet drop from the tee to the fairway that is followed by a green protected by a bunker on the front, cart path on the left, and lake on the right and back sides. A true parkland course, the bunkers are not too big, there are enough trees to cause a problem if your accuracy is not up to scratch, but the water poses the largest challenge. A truly scenic course, Capitol Hill’s Judge course is an all-round masterpiece to say the least.
As a 54-hole golf complex, the Capitol Hill facilities are world-class. Practice facilities include a full-length driving range and putting green as well as chipping and short-game area. Carts, caddies and all rental equipment is also available from the Pro Shop where there is a resident pro full-time.
The clubhouse features a large restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks and serves drinks of all kinds. The Pro Shop comes fully stocked with the latest golf equipment and attire from big brands and Capitol Hill’s own branded golf attire.
