Completely renovated in 2008, the Bayonet Black Horse 36-hole golf facility transforms the golf scene on the Monterey Peninsula. It enriches the current offerings of Pebble Beach, Poppy Hills, Quail Lodge and a plethora of other courses with two championship layouts that is the centrepiece of Gene Bates’ Golf Design Group. Having played host to numerous tournaments such as the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour and Champions Tour, the two courses are cemented in Californian golfing glory. The other course is named Black Horse; we highly recommend playing both when visiting the Monterey and Carmel region.
Bayonet, with its narrow playing corridors and steep, penal bunkering, has long been considered the most difficult test of golf on the Monterey Peninsula. The par-72, 6,495-metre / 7,104-yard course has retained its famous bite after the recent renovation by award-winning architect Gene Bates, but playability and strategic options have been greatly improved. The uphill, dogleg right, 476-yard, par-4 ninth hole exemplifies the course’s significant challenge. The course is kept in immaculate condition, large flat-bottom bunkers often wreaking havoc from fairways and around greens.
The golf precinct at Bayonet Black Horse features a fully equipped golf shop that features complete lines of men’s and women’s equipment and attire, as well as premium rental equipment. The practice facility consists of a new double-ended driving range, and a total of 58,000 square feet of grass-only hitting space. There are two short-game areas, along with a greenside bunker and large putting green.

Bayonet Grill
The Clubhouse restaurant offers expansive views and a dining choice of inside or on the outdoor patio. Local produce is utilised to full effect in the Bayonet Grill, and the bar offers specialty drinks, six beers on tap, with gourmet food and stunning views of the water in Monterey Bay.
