Every course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort emulates the Great Scottish Links Courses, with a touch of Oregon’s charm and Bandon’s mystery.
It began in 1999 with the opening of Bandon Dunes. Designed by Scotsman David McLay Kidd, the course is perched on a bluff high above the Pacific Ocean. Bandon Dunes unfolds along pristine native dunes where expansive ocean views are revealed on nearly every hole. The course is completely natural and routed through an environment of indigenous vegetation. Beyond breathtaking scenery lies the game of golf in its truest form. This is a thinker’s course. Winds are ever-present, and the varying elements create a new experience each time you play. The course has been rated among Golf Digest’s Top 50, which certainly cements its place in the golfing world. The complex itself is so established that it rivals Pinehurst and the Monterey Peninsula, home to Pebble Beach.
The lack of trees and varying degree of undulating fairways from the first dogleg right foreshadow a great round on the Bandon Dunes Golf Course. The turf is firm most of the year, and the breeze can reverse high shots and divert good ones. One of the best features of the Bandon Dunes Golf Course is the lack of buildings, roads, or humanity. When playing a round on this course, a connection is immediately established between the course and player; either the serene silence or gushing wind greets the first tee: either one always heralding a memorable round of golf. A simple look at the pictures is enough to know that Bandon Dunes is a contender for one of the greatest sea-side links courses, but actually playing a round there as you leave the clubhouse and embark on an 18-hole or 36-hole bonanza, rejuvenates the soul as a true links course often does for the avid golfer. The Punchbowl
The newest addition to the Bandon Dunes family, The Punchbowl is a 100,000-square-foot putting course designed by Tom Doak, with Jim Urbina. No tee-times are required, all you need to do is show up and put your golf ball in the queue; it is open by 14.00 & closes at dusk, night use is prohibited. It s also complimentary for resort guests. It features 18 holes’ lengths differ from day to day, some are short, and some are long. The area is a collection of natural hollows. Punchbowl is a longstanding design concept by golf architects. The 18th hole at Old Macdonald shares the same principles and is aptly named “Punchbowl.”
Shorty’s Practice Center
Bandon Dunes was created for one purpose, the pure enjoyment of golf. In order to help you prepare, we offer a practice facility that allows you to perfect every shot required on the five courses.
Practice facility features:
· Practice Center is approximately 50 acres.
· Clubhouse with complimentary coffee and tea.
· Two full practice ranges — one hitting north and one hitting south.
· A one-acre practice green.
· Two short game practice areas for chip, pitch, bunker and bump-and-run shots.
