The Marriott Forest of Arden has two courses set inside a 10,000-acre parkland site, but there’s one course out of the two that stands out. The Championship course has hosted the British Masters and the English Open, and is a personal favourite as the underdog of England’s Parkland courses by the team at Voyages.golf. Its surroundings are sublime and there is ample wildlife in the form of birds, plentiful ducks and deer roaming between holes. Many holes play beside or over lakes, including the 18th with a view over a large lake to the clubhouse. It is a challenge to the short hitters to make the shot, but extremely exciting nonetheless. The Championship Course has thick rough that is often wet in the morning time, meaning shots can go short or far depending on the lie, and the ample bunkers and heather make accuracy very demanding for the standard golfer.
The best thing to note on this course is the cunning use of water and how some of the holes are shaped with both water and trees in mind. The course is a parkland layout that requires a certain amount of strategy that proves exciting and challenging when the mind is put to use. The Forest of Arden has to be one of the most bio-diverse golf courses in the UK, and every hole is stimulating both strategically and visually.
Accommodation at the Forest of Arden is very straightforward. Rooms range from Deluxe rooms to Superior rooms with bed configurations of 1 king or 2 doubles. The main difference is that Superior rooms are larger in size. Both rooms types feature plush bedding, a flat-screen TV, large work desks and high-speed internet access. Some rooms enjoy sweeping views over the golf courses, others over the golf practice facilities. All rooms are extremely clean to Marriott global standards and have plush bedding that makes for a fantastic nights’ sleep.
Cast Iron Bar & Grill
The Cast Iron Bar & Grill at the Marriott Forest of Arden uses fresh, locally sourced dishes that feature the best of Britain. The old-school classics, succulent steaks and Sunday lunch carvery menu all rate highly among patrons. It has a relaxed atmosphere with homely food that runs year-round, and the price tag is very easy on the palate.
Zest Restaurant
The Zest Restaurant at The Forest of Arden offers international cuisine whilst focusing on light bites and snacks. It has seating both inside and out, with the terrace being a lovely place to enjoy your food during England’s warmer months.
The Cedarwood Spa
The Marriott Forest of Arden offers a tranquil on-site spa named The Cedarwood. It has a range of massage and beauty treatments with operating hours between 10AM & 6PM. The full suite of treatments include:
Fitness Centre & Pool
The Marriott Forest of Arden Resort has both a gym and pool, both located conveniently near reception. There are complimentary fitness classes, free weights in the gym, and cardiovascular equipment in the gym, as well as reclining seats by the heated pool.
The Marriott Forest of Arden is conveniently located just 25-minutes’ drive from the centre of Birmingham, but feels like such an isolated retreat due to its expansive size and lack of nearby building and many trees. The Resort also lies just 10-minutes’ drive from Birmingham Airport. For those driving directly from London, the resort is just over 120-minutes’ drive along the M40 & M42.
