Golf Course Information

Sunningdale’s Old Course was designed by Willie Park Junior in 1901, over a mixture of hills, heath and woodland. His course was considered revolutionary, not just because over the strange terrain he planned to lay it over, but because it was considered extremely long for the time. Within a few years Harry Colt, the club secretary, modified several holes and drastically altered the others. The Old Course at Sunningdale Golf Club is considered one of the best inland courses in the United Kingdom and is regularly found in “Top 100 “lists.

The Old Course at Sunningdale is lined with innumerable pine, birch and oak trees, which is what gives the Club its emblem. Its aesthetics through old woodlands and colourful heathland make Sunningdale Old Course a crowd-pleaser for every tournament that’s played there for spectators both physically there and those watching on TV. The course itself is world-class in every way; its layout, combined with immaculate conditions year-round despite the often-gloomy weather, and the timeless history of the design in 1901 stands the test of time and is Willie Park Junior & Harry Colt’s greatest achievement together.
