Unanimously rated the No. 1 Public Course in the Country, Pebble Beach hosted its sixth U.S. Open in 2019, more than any other course over the last 50 years. Future championships include a first U.S. Women’s Open in 2023, and a seventh U.S. Open in 2027. Every February, the PGA TOUR visits for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, a tradition that began in 1947. It is simply one of the greatest golf courses to have existed, the perfect blend where the ocean meets land. The Par-3 5th, designed by Jack Nicklaus in 1999 is a spectacular addition to test your mettle. The ocean breeze affects play constantly on the course, but it helps clear the occasional sea-mist that frequents Pebble Beach. Nearby golf destinations consist of Spyglass Hill, The Links at Spanish Bay, Poppy Hills, Quail Lodge & Golf Club and Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Club. There is something amazing about the ambience at Pebble Beach. Whether it’s the mistiness in the morning or ritual of the bagpiper in the evening, any time spent at the golf resort is time well spent. Pebble Beach Golf Links is an all-time favourite and renowned as the World’s best public golf course for a very good reason. Attentive staff, immaculate course conditions and a timeless layout that generates a perfect balance of challenge and reward. Recent improvements include the redesign of the once-treacherous 14th green and reshaping of the par-3 17th green, both planned by Arnold Palmer’s Design Company a few years back. With much of the course playing parallel to the Pacific, the wind is the deciding factor between a good or bad round; but even bad rounds are most enjoyable because Pebble Beach has unmatched views over the Pacific at sunset and the surrounding mountains.
A point of heated debate is which hole is the most iconic, but the par-3 7th is a sure contender. At 96-metres from the back tees, it is the shortest hole on the course, and also the shortest hole on the PGA tour. It has both made and broken golfers’ tournaments with the wind tellingly being the deciding factor. Club selection is vital on the 7th, with well-placed bunkers sometimes seeming like havens when shots are poorly made or the wind interrupting well-placed shots. Simply put, Pebble Beach Golf Links has a well-deserved reputation that must be played by every avid golfer.
